SuikodoTM is a gentle "hands-on" technique used to manage pain and treat musculoskeletal injury. With roots in Shiatsu and Swedish massage, it combines the use of pressure points with manual vibratory pressure at specific points on the patient's body to reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
SuikodoTM has been used at Toronto-Centre Naturopathic Medicine in the successful treatment of neck and back pain and stiffness, hip pain and “pinched nerve” resulting in pain and loss of mobility at the shoulder, among other conditions. It is appropriate for most conditions in which physiotherapy would be prescibed in the conventional medical system.
SuikodoTM treatments are typically 45 to 60 minutes long, and involve gentle, passive manipulation of joints and muscles. Some improvement in pain or loss of function is expected after the first treatment. The number of treatments required for maximal benefit varies from patient to patient.
Du La, ND and Jonah Lusis, ND are among the few SuikodoTM-trained practitioners in Toronto. SuikodoTM treatments provided at Toronto-Centre Naturopathic Medicine are covered by most extended healthcare plans.
